IP Address Managements, Check and setup IP address for IX devices

Table of Contents

IX is TCP/IP based network devices; IP address is also an essential setting for IX devices. In the IX system IP setup strategy mainly are below:

·         Static

·         DHCP&AUTO

Static and DHCP are the same as any other network devices, which static needs manually input IP address information. At the same time, DHCP obtains an IP address from the DHCP server.

What is Auto IP

The AUTO means automatically IP addressing:

While if there is no DHCP server in the network, the IX device set in DHCP&AUTO will turn to auto IP addressing, and assign itself a static IP address automatically.

Auto IP assigned from block 192.168.243.1/20 (192.168.243.0 through 192.168.255.256), and the gateway address is 192.168.243.200 by default, and self IP address checking make sure each IX device’s auto IP is unique in the network.

The DHCP&AUTO address benefit as below:

·         Easier for the installer, without setup IP address, by default IX Devices in a network without DHCP or router is still plug and play.

·         Fail-safe, when the DHCP server is down, the IX devices will turn into AUTO IP and local service could still run.

·         Less work, set router address into 192.168.243.200/20 you could get all devices on the internet.

Check and Modify IP address

While checking IP address on IX device, the postfix means the IP addressing source:

192.168.243.255 -A

-A: means the IP addressing by AUTO IP

-D: means the IP address obtained from DHCP server

-S: means the IP address is manually setup via input static IP address

-U: means the device is alone in the network, the device will reboot in 3 min

Check how to setup IX device’s IP as below:

For IX850

Installer mode: “Installer Mode” -> “Settings” -> “IP Address” and check it’s IP address

Image Modified

Tap “IP assigned” to change from “Static” or “DHCP&AUTO” and fill in IP address settings below if it is static.

Or in “About” has IP address read-only information.

Address health check: check if this address is duplicate in this network.

Remotely check and modify IP address by “Onsite tool”

All device could remotely check and modify IP address by onsite tool, it is specially for IX device without screen, such as IX610 and IX821.

Refer “Onsite tool” to see how to find an online device by onsite tool

On IX device with screens, in onsite tool, search and locate target device.

Restore IP address setup

Device restore to factory will restore IP address to default, “DHCP&AUTO.”

Appendix 1

Select your IP Strategy

Before setting IP address, you might need to know whether using ‘Static’, ‘DHCP’ or ‘Auto’ in project.

While connect IX system to network, normally below two kinds of network

·         Private network:

New design network.

With or without router

·         Existing network:

Connect IX system into an existing network

Case of IP Strategy in wired lan mode

  1. Private network without Router or Router without DHCP

. Private network without DHCP, should use “DHCP&AUTO” to get correct IP address.  In this occasion IX system will generate IP address by “AUTO”. (-A)

Connect with router without DHCP, the router must set IP “192.168.243.200/20”

Image Modified

2. Private network with router or switch and both with DHCP. If network with DHCP server, should use “DHCP&AUTO” to get correct IP address. In this occasion IX system will obtain IP address from “DHCP”. (-D)

Image Modified

3. Private network but router with a static IP address and without DHCP. If private network using a router with a static IP address but without DHCP, we could use “Static” IP address.

Image Modified

4. Existing network with static IP strategy. If existing network using static IP strategy, IX device must set in “Static”, allocation IP addresses from existing network.

Image Modified

5. Existing network with DHCP strategy. If existing network using DHCP strategy, IX device set in “DHCP&AUTO”, obtain IP address form existing network’s DHCP server.

This is a standard IP network terms.

Other 2 settings are included: IP network masks, default gateway

Both static and dynamic IP policy can be used.

In IX system, IP address is not associated with any call numbers or RM_ADDR, which means great flexibly to choose IP policy to meet network requirement.

Generally, for a system with dedicated cabling Ethernet network, device will get IP address automatically, installers do not need to care about.

If a system is integrated with an existing network, normally there is a DHCP server who will be responsible for dynamic IP addressing scheme.

However, if static IP is used in an existing network, you have to use same segment according to the network planning. With IX-Builder, IP address policy can be specified in RES configuration files, you do not need to enter the numbers by manual.

IP stragety in other scenario and rules

1. Monitor devices in WLAN mode by a wireless connection to LAN

Monitor should be in DHCP mode so that IP address obtained from DHCP server

2. Private home network connected in and used

IX devices’ IP segment should be different with that of private home Wi-Fi network which is used for call divert or WIPC connection
